SACRFICE AND REMEMBRANCE TALK ON FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER. DOORS OPEN 6.30PM
This presentation covers the scale of the sacrifice in WW1 and WW2, how the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) commemorate the fallen in both wars, their founding principles and the initial adverse public reaction to their plans, personalities involved in the CWGC, layout of the cemeteries, stories behind some of the headstones, the creation of a new cemetery at Fromelles Pheasant Wood after the discovery of a mass grave and how we now commemorate the fallen in recent conflicts.

Jeremy Prescott

Jeremy Prescott served for 27 years as a British Army Officer in the Infantry reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He saw operational active service in Northern Ireland and Dhofar, Oman and served in many other theatres including Germany, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Norway.
After leaving the Army he became Chief Executive of a charity which supported rural communities in the East Midlands; a position he held for 18 years. During this time he oversaw six successful bids to the national lottery raising nearly a million pounds in project work for the charity. He retired in 2015 and lives in Southsea, Hampshire and occupies himself with delivering these presentations.
Combat Stress Charity
Combat Stress is the veterans mental health charity . Currently the charity is helping almost 6,000 UK veterans get their lives back. The charity helps those suffering from mental ill-health caused by military service, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.
Support is provided through a 24 hr helpline, community support centres and specialist clinical treatment at three residential treatment centres, in Ayrshire, Shropshire and Surrey. In 2020 Combat Stress received 15,000 calls which translated into 3,000 interventions. On average it takes a Service Leaver 13 years after leaving the Armed Forces before they feel willing or able to contact agencies like Combat Stress to help them through their difficulties.
